Tike is Bobby’s second mate. The name doesn’t sound like something I would have chosen, right? That’s because I didn’t! This little one came from a well-known shop at the Suwon Reptile Fair in August 2023, and I decided to keep the name given by the shop.

At that time, the Cappuccino morph was rapidly gaining popularity among reptile enthusiasts. Many shops at the fair had various Cappuccino geckos, but I picked the one that stood out to me the most.

The photo above is from the day I brought Tike home—does it look familiar? That’s right! It’s the same picture on my blog’s main page. Tike looks so adorable, sitting so neatly. One of the signature traits of the Cappuccino morph is its overall dark coloration, and this little one has a beautiful brown hue.

Here’s another photo showcasing a key Cappuccino trait: the dorsal pattern is almost completely faded. You can still see faint traces of a pattern, and in earlier photos, you can even spot some brindle markings. This was a major reason I paired Tike with Bobby. I was really curious about what kind of offspring would result from crossing a pure-blooded Barb—known for strong hereditary traits—with a Cappuccino morph, which tends to have a pattern-erasing effect.

Another unique feature: the white “Y” marking on the tail. While this isn’t exclusive to the Cappuccino morph, as other morphs sometimes display similar markings, Tike’s pattern is distinct enough to confirm its Cappuccino lineage.

Tike had its first breeding season in 2024, producing a total of four babies—each with unique characteristics. Stay tuned for the next post to see how they turned out!
